Historic arcade to host unique theatrical tour of the Lang Toun

Kirkcaldy’s Olympia Arcade is the unique setting for a new show.

Stellar Quines Community Company presents its first original production in the historic arcade off the High Street - one written and performed by the company and inspired by the stories of women in Kirkcaldy.

‘What You May Have Missed’ will take audiences on an unexpected theatrical tour of the Lang Toun as it explores the lives of local women past, present and future.

The play is inspired by interviews the company conducted with local people asking them to nominate a local woman they think should be celebrated and includes teachers, community workers, business owners, neighbours, friends and family.

The production will be performed over three nights in the Olympia Arcade - one of Scotland’s oldest shopping arcades - from Thursday August 13-15th at 7:00pm.

Audiences will be invited to move through the arcade as the company recreates some of the much missed businesses and places in Kirkcaldy that interviewees shared fond memories of such as the nightclub Jackie O ,and the Green Cockatoo Tea Room.

Directed by Caitlin Skinner, Stellar Quines artistic director, and Rowan Heggie, the show asks questions about the role women play in towns like Kirkcaldy, how that has changed over time, and what their hopes might be for the future.

Caitlin said: “It has been a huge privilege to listen to the stories of Kirkcaldy’s women through the Nova Project.

“The Quines Community Company has been so moved by what we have heard and it’s been an honour to create something inspired by these people and the themes and ideas they have brought up for us.

“The cast have written everything themselves and have been quite fearless in how they have put it all together. The show will be an absolute hoot but also resonate with some important themes too”
