The Love Oor Lang Toun campaign, organised by Cara Forrester from Queendom of Fife, is a competition to encourage people to talk up Kirkcaldy.

The concept is simple - go into one of the shops or businesses taking part, nominate your favourite business or place – it could be a park or the Kirkcaldy Galleries – and be entered into a free prize draw for a prize pack donated by Kirkcaldy businesses!

Cara explained to The Press why she decided to organise the campaign: “I know there are challenges for the town.

“But I genuinely love Kirkcaldy and think there are so many amazing businesses and places.

“For example, we are blessed with a great waterfront, parks like Ravenscraig or Beveridge Park and have a lot to talk positively about. So I thought, what better time of year to show how much we love Kirkcaldy than Valentine’s?

“Kirkcaldy has some great places to visit - many free of charge.

“ I don’t think money or not having as much should be a barrier to people finding out about our town and what it has to offer or taking their family out for the day.

“I’ve purposefully not asked people to vote online because I want to use this as a chance to encourage people into shops and businesses in the town.

That way, they can support a local business and perhaps be reminded about all the positives - there are many traders working really hard to support the town, the local economy and the community.

“Isn’t it time we all recognised that, worked together and gave them all the chance for a well earned boost?”

A list of local businesses taking part is online at www.queendomoffife.com and the competition will run until March 28. Then all nominations will be put into a prize draw and the winner will receive a bumper prize pack, made up of generous donations from the local business community.

Cara added: “Local businesses have once again been so generous in supporting me and it’s a really great feeling to be able to give something back to them through this competition.

“Those taking part will be sharing posts on their social media, as will I on the Queendom of Fife pages and even if people can’t get into one of the many shops or businesses taking part I hope they can help spread the word online for me.

“Kindness is contagious and the town needs a bit of positivity - let’s show we love oor Lang Toun!”
