Plans to move Fife Pride's annual celebration to larger Kirkcaldy location

Organisers of Fife Pride, a celebration of equality and diversity, have shared plans to move the annual event to a larger Kirkcaldy location.

For eight years, the event has seen crowds gather at Fife College’s campus in St Brycedale Avenue to parade through the town centre to the Town Square for an afternoon of entertainment and celebration.

However, organisers have said that plans are afoot to move the event’s end location to a new location – Beveridge Park.

In a post on social media, the Pride organisers said that the move was needed as the event has now outgrown the previous space at Wemyssfield.

They said: “Last year, Fife Pride welcomed over 4000 people. That support means everything to us, but it also highlighted the current site is no longer big enough to safely support the event as it continues to grow. “Over the last few years, the same feedback has come up again and again from our community: that Pride needs more space, better accessibility, and fresh ideas. We want to be honest and say that this feedback hasn’t always been acted on in the past. “Fife Pride is also in a new chapter. We are a new committee, bringing fresh ideas, new energy, and a real commitment to listening and doing things differently. That means taking feedback seriously and making changes that allow Pride to grow and improve, rather than repeating the same limitations year after year.”

The committee said that in order to keep the event running safely and sustainably, the celebrations have to move and Beveridge Park is an option that would allow them to stay in Kirkcaldy.

The statement continued: “After careful planning and discussion, Beveridge Park is the option that allows us to keep Pride in Kirkcaldy; grow the event without compromising safety; significantly improve accessibility and comfort; reduce town centre pressure and plan responsibly for the future. “Being honest means being clear about the reality. Without the support needed to move and deliver Pride safely, we could be left with difficult options such as capping attendance or moving the event outwith Kirkcaldy, neither of which we want. “A bigger, safer, more accessible Pride also costs more to deliver, and if we want Fife Pride to continue and continue well, we need more support.”

They said support is needed in terms of sponsorship from local businesses, donations from individuals who believe in what Pride brings to Fife and in-kind support, services, and partnerships.

They added: “Fife Pride has always been community-led, and its future depends on community backing. If you can help in any way, we would love to hear from you.”

A community engagement meeting is planned for Tuesday, February 3 at Kirkcaldy Rugby Club at 7pm where organisers will talk openly with the public about the proposed move. Anyone interested in finding out more or offering support for the event is welcome to attend.

The new committee added that they are committed to doing the work needed to keep Fife Pride going, growing and rooted in the Lang Toun.

The 2025 Fife Pride event was the biggest one to date with thousands pouring into Kirkcaldy town centre to be part of the celebration. Singer Horse McDonald headlined the entertainment on the main stage in the Town Square and an after party at The Hive, Fife's main LGBT+ centre, starred actor and singer Claire Sweeney.
