World Cup: hundreds set to pack Fife's only fanzone for Scotland's big games

Fife Ice Arena is counting down to the biggest World Cup party in the region.

It’s the venue for Fife’s only major fanzone, with several hundred supporters already booked in to watch Scotland’s opening matches live on big screens.

Scotland’s World Cup finals kicks-off with a game against Haiti at 2:00am on Sunday (June 14), followed by Morocco on June 19 and Brazil on the 24th, both starting at 11:00pm.

The Lang Toun fanzone is sponsored by Tennents, local food trucks and some sports based arcade games. Entertainment will also be a major highlight, with performances from KY-ONE hoist, DJ Lewis Montague and the electrifying Elektrik TIEL delivering music and atmosphere to keep the crowd buzzing before and during the matches, plus a piper performing Flower Of Scotland prior to kick-off.

The rink has teamed up with Love Oor Lang Toun (LOLT) for the big event, and promises a vibrant atmosphere with big-screen action beamed live from the USA.

Ryan Strachan, development manager at LOLT, said: “It will be a fun event. A lot of fans have bought a bundle ticket for all three games, so if we win the first one, it will only help to build the atmosphere.”

Tickets - available to over 18s only - are available now at www.fifeicearena.co.uk.

For the opening game against Haiti, doors will open at 10:00pm with the game starting at 2:00am. For the two other games, which kick-off at 11:00pm, the events will start at 8:00pm.

Fife Licensing Board has also agreed to allow pubs and venues to stay open until half an hour after the games - but venues wanting a late licence will have to already be authorised to screen live sport. The same policy will be in place for quarter finals, semi finals and final with venues also able to apply for specific other matches if there is “clear local demand or community interest.”

Already, a number of bars and hotels around the region have organised ticketed events to screen the Scotland games. In Kirkcaldy, Styx on Victoria Road, and Montagues’ pub in the High Street have confirmed ticketed events to screen Scotland’s games, as have the Spiral Weave, Windsor Hotel and Chapel Tavern. The games are also being screened at the Sands Hotel, Burntisland.
