Building society plans for defibrillator at St Andrews branch
A lifesaving defibrillator could soon be installed in St Andrews town centre.
The Nationwide Building Society has applied to Fife Council for listed building consent to add the equipment, and bleed kit, to the outside of its premises at 151 Market Street.
In a supporting statement, the business said is aimed to ensure people have rapid, 24/7 access to vital emergency equipment whenever it is needed.
It plans to install external defibrillators and bleed control kits across all branches.

It said: “Each piece of equipment will be housed in its own dedicated, secure external cabinet. The aim is to deliver a clear, simple, and potentially lifesaving message: Where there is a Nationwide branch, there is always access to a defibrillator and bleed kit in an emergency.” The defibrillator cabinet will come from St John’s Ambulance, and the applicant said the location chosen was prominent, without impacting on the appearance of the town’s conservation area.
Councillors will consider the application in due course.
