It came after concerns were raised over proposals to cut opening  hours at the Burntisland venue.

Burntisland Amateur Swimming Club created a petition, which gained over 5000 signatures, highlighting concerns over a real risk that the centre could close.

Bridget Fraser, chairman of the club, wrote: “In 2018 Fife Sports and Leisure Trust (FSLT) proposed a full closure of the Beacon to Fife Council. At that point reduced opening hours were negotiated as an alternative.

“This was supposed to be a three year arrangement, but not much more than a year later further cuts have been proposed. I believe that there is a real risk that further cuts would lead to the eventual closure of the Centre.

“As a committee it is fairly inspiring that the community is supporting and trying to protect its assets. But there are no plans to close the centre.”
