Edinburgh Fringe: extra late night trains for Fifers heading to festival

Fifers have been reassured that there will be additional late night trains available for anyone travelling home from the Edinburgh during the festival period next month.

To support one of Scotland's busiest periods, ScotRail has committed to adding more late-night services, which will assist the tens of thousands of extra revellers traveling to and from the capital during this year's events.

From Friday, August 7 until Sunday, August 30, passengers in the Fife area will benefit from additional capacity on key routes in and out of Edinburgh, making it easier to return home after watching a late performance.

To cope with demand, customers travelling to and from areas such as Fife, Glasgow, Perth, Stirling and North Berwick will also enjoy longer carriages, providing thousands of extra seats during the festival.

Following the recent fire on Princes Street, a stretch of road outside Waverley Station will remain closed into August, with diversions already put in place. ScotRail has advised customers to allow extra time for their journey.

Mark Ilderton, ScotRail service delivery director, said: "The Edinburgh festivals are among the highlights of Scotland's cultural calendar, attracting visitors from across the world, and we're proud to help people travel to and from the capital throughout this incredibly popular period.

"By adding extra late-night trains and using longer trains on routes in and out of Edinburgh, we're making it easier for customers to enjoy everything the festivals have to offer, whether they're heading to an afternoon performance or staying out for one last show before catching the train home.”
