Fife Flyers set for packed rink as Challenge Cup reaches thrilling climax
There have been some big statement wins and a return of the buzz rinkside this season - now the stage is set for a special post-Hallowe’en party as Fife Ice Arena hosts its biggest crowd of the season tonight (Sunday) as Fife Flyers bid to clinch their place in the Challenge Cup knockout stages for the first time in several seasons.
They face section leaders Belfast Giants, who have already booked their semi-final spot, just 24 hours after posting a fine 3-2 road win at Dundee Stars.
This is Flyers’ finest cup run since making the final in 2023 - where Todd Dutiaume’s team was beaten by Giants - and one that has fired the enthusiasm of the fans.
They go into the game with 13 points from ten games, while Giants have already secured first place with 18 points from 11 games and have qualified directly for the semi-finals.

Flyers need just one point to guarantee second place. An overtime or shootout defeat would also be enough, as they would hold the advantage over Glasgow on the group tie-breaking criteria of total wins if both finished on 14 points. A victory would take Fife beyond Glasgow's reach altogether.
Flyers produced one of their best performances of the season when they defeated Giants 3-2 earlier this month - a midweek game which attracted a bumper crowd of just over 2000 fan.
It was a night when the team battled injuries and a sickness bug - two forwards iced as defenceman - and still outworked Giants,
It also marked the home debut of American netminder, Blake Pietila, who gave an assured performance between the pipes, and there were a host of excellent performances were topped by Cameron Hough and Max Coyle who soaked up the ice time, skating for some 28 minutes.
