Kirkcaldy’s newest coffee shop gets green light for plans

Kirkcaldy town centre’s newest coffee shop has got the go ahead to make some changes to its premises.

Oscars Coffee House moved into the building which was once home to Cupcake Coffee Box, and, before that, McDonald’s.

It has now got approval from Fife Council to erect signage, add retractable awnings, paint the exterior and install outdoor seating to the business at 207–217 High Street.

A supporting statement said: “The proposals are modest and are mainly limited to the existing ground-floor commercial frontage. No alterations are proposed to the main historic upper elevations, stonework or architectural detailing of the listed building.

“The external repainting will retain a similar appearance to the existing finish. The internal painting is decorative only and will not affect the structure or important architectural features of the building.”

It said the outdoor seating plans would retain “a clear pedestrian route through the High Street.”

It added: “The seating will help create an active and welcoming frontage and support the proposed coffee-shop use.”
