Kirkcaldy & Dysart FC boss Grant Brough delighted as team net 10 in two games

Kirkcaldy & Dysart boss Grant Brough was a happy man after watching his side score a total of 10 goals in two away victories over the past few days, with the Denfield side 4-0 up at half-time in both matches.

A Jack O’Donnell hat-trick and further goals by Ryan Westbrook and Jordan Hunter (2) saw off Edinburgh CFC 6-1 in the Alex Jack Cup second round on Saturday, before Easthouses Lily Miners Welfare were beaten 4-1 in the East of Scotland Football League first division on Tuesday.

Brough said: “The start of the season didn’t quite go to plan as we were kind of playing catch up with a lot of things.

"We had guys that were struggling with fitness and maybe not up to the pace but they are now up to it.

"We’re starting to get into a rhythm and that’s five games undefeated, three wins, two draws and in those two draws we should have got the wins as well.

"But now we’re starting to build up a bit of momentum. Tuesday night was like the Kirkcaldy at the end of last season when we went on that fantastic run. That was back to how we were playing then which was the most pleasing thing for me.

"On Tuesday we only had 11 fit first team players but they were superb. All credit to the under-20s boys who came in to help us out from the bench.

“At half-time in both matches I was just reiterating to the guys to not take the foot off the gas, keep doing what they were doing and not give them any opportunity to get any glimpse of hope.”

The midweek league win puts K&D ninth in the table with 11 points from eight fixtures, ahead of this Saturday’s first division trip to Kinnoull in a 2.30pm kick-off.

"We should have three or four guys back available from the ones that were working away or on holiday in midweek,” Brough said. “That should make it easier.

"They are going to have to earn their right to get back into the team though.”

Meanwhile, K&D have signed former St Andrews United goalkeeper Owain Clark and he played as a trialist against Easthouses.

"Owain played well,” Brough said. “It was a commanding display and I’m really pleased to get him on board.

"He is first class with his feet and his kicking. His distribution was really good. The goal that we conceded was with the last kick of the ball.”

Cammy McGregor was devastated that his slip let them in to score but he was absolutely immense so I’ll let him off.”
