Raith Rovers' Dougie Imrie expects rumoured striker target 'to have many options"
The goalscoring and creative qualities of East Kilbride marksman John Robertson shouldn’t carry any less weight because they have been carried out in Scottish football’s fifth and fourth tiers in recent seasons, says Raith Rovers boss Dougie Imrie.
Imrie has been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old Edinburgh-born striker, as part of an expected major summer rehaul of the Kirkcaldy club’s playing squad which has 14 players out of contract – including loanees – this summer.

As someone who prefers to keep his transfer dealings close to his chest until anything becomes official, Imrie wouldn’t confirm or deny his interest in signing Robertson but he is clearly a fan of a player who had netted 19 goals and provided 11 assists heading into last weekend’s fixtures, saying: "If we were interested in John, I would like to think that there would be other teams than Raith Rovers looking at him because he's a top player. Albeit people turn around and say: ‘Yeah, but what he is doing has been in the Lowland League and League Two’.
"But to score the amount of goals and have the goal contributions and assists that he has, then I would imagine there'll be a few pursuers looking to get John signed up for next season.
“I don't think it would be fair to speak about anybody that's still contracted to a football club. John's done really well at East Kilbride.
"He's got a few games left and he's done an amazing job for them. But I don't think it's my place to be speaking about other players while they are contracted to another club.”
