Positive report for centenary school
St Ninian’s RC Primary School and Nursery in Cardenden are celebrating positive inspection findings after a recent visit from Education Scotland inspectors.
Inspectors highlighted the caring and welcoming environment across the school and nursery, which is also celebrating its 100th anniversary.

They found that children are at the heart of everything staff do and benefit from high-quality learning experiences, strong relationships and effective support.
Headteacher Shona Gorman said: “We are delighted that inspectors recognised the hard work and commitment of our children, staff and families.
“We are proud of the warm and nurturing environment we have created together and the positive relationships which help our children thrive every day.
“The report celebrates many of our strengths while also supporting us with our self evaluation to identify the next steps which will support further improvement.
“We look forward to continuing this work with our whole school community.”
Inspectors praised the positive attitudes of children across the school. They found that children are respectful, polite and proud of their school. Staff were recognised for creating an inclusive environment based on children’s rights and the school’s values of respect, ambition, honesty and belief.
In the primary school, inspectors found a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment where children felt well supported. Strong relationships between staff, children and families, effective use of digital technology, robust assessment systems, and a collaborative approach to learning and teaching were highlighted.
The nursery was praised for its very strong learning, teaching and assessment, calm and engaging learning environments, skilled staff interactions, high-quality outdoor learning, effective partnerships with families, and strong support for children transitioning into Primary 1.
Inspectors also recognised the school’s commitment to developing children’s digital skills.
Older pupils regularly use their own digital devices to research, create presentations and showcase their learning. Younger children use digital tools to develop literacy, numeracy and early programming skills.
The nursery was praised for its broad play-based curriculum and the opportunities children have to learn both indoors and outdoors.
Children enjoy exploring nature, developing physical skills and learning through play in stimulating environments.
Sarah Else, Education Manager, said: “This is a very positive report which highlights the dedication of staff and the excellent relationships they have built with children and families.
“The inspection findings recognise the strong foundations already in place and provide a clear direction for future improvement.
“We look forward to supporting the school and nursery as they continue their improvement journey.”
