Today, we call on the building’s London based SPK - the Polish Ex-combatants Association which formally manages the club - to put its plans on hold, and speak to the community.

And, also listen.

Far too many decisions taken by people hundreds of miles from town have cost us important businesses and community venues.

Today, we urge the town to speak with one, united voice to secure the future of the Polish Club.

It has a rich heritage but, of equal importance, a bright future.

It has been home to so many many organisations which span across this town. It is a place people care deeply about.

The SPK has to be made fully aware of that depth of support - and you can do that by signing and sharing the online petition.

Every name strengthens the case to take the Polish Club into local control to steer its own course for the many individuals and groups which use it.

The SPK must also take its plan to place the building on the open market off the table - and engage meaningfully with the community.

It must give the people at the heart of the club the time necessary to put its plans in place.

Everything may have a price, but it also has a value.

This town has watched as, one by one, its traditional community hubs have been lost - places which served generations of folk.

The Polish Club must not be allowed to join that rollcall.
