Volunteers’ Green picnic to celebrate Kirkcaldy’s amazing women

Kirkcaldy is set to host a picnic on the Prom.

The event, which promises fun, food and stories, takes place on Volunteers’ Green from 12:00-3:00pm on Saturday, August 1.

Organised by the Kings Theatre based, Stellar Quines, it celebrates the incredible women, non-binary and trans people of the Lang Toun in a special event curated by young people.

Picnic on the Prom is part of the Nova Project, the theatre group’s year-long programme which aims to shine a light on the stories of the women, trans and nonbinary people of Kirkcaldy.

Throughout 2026 Stellar Quines has been asking local people to nominate someone they think should be celebrated. Their stories have been captured through workshops, interviews and conversations - as well as a series of photographs which now form part of the Esplanade’s artwork.

The Picnic On The Prom will feature poet Ellen Renton and author Sara Cullen, who have been commissioned to perform response pieces. There will also be food, arts and crafts, games, plus a drag performance from Jude.

Everyone is welcome to bring a blanket or something to sit on and join the event at Volunteers Green. Tickets are free but please book in advance at www.stellarquines.co.uk to make sure there is enough food for everyone.
