Councillors commit £30,000 to tackle road which is ‘falling apart’
A badly damaged road in Glenrothes is to be repaired at a cost of £30,000.
Councillors agreed to spend the cash tackling their long-running concerns at Woolmill Road.
The unadopted road services a house and is the sole access to Glenrothes Martial Arts Centre and Balbirnie Gym.
The decision was taken at this week’s meeting of Glenrothes area committee, with the money coming from the £500,000 handed down to the organisation to deal with local roads issues.

Although the road isn’t owned by the council, members agreed it needed to be improved.
Councillor Altany Craik (Glenrothes West and Kinglassie, Labour) said it was “totally substandard and falling apart” and the money spent would bring it up to standard for locals and motorists.
Woolmill Road was identified as a priority at a recent workshop with councillors given their long standing concerns over its condition - it is blighted with potholes and an uneven surface.
Councillor Lynda Holton ( Glenrothes Central and Thornton, SNP) said: “I have been working with Glenrothes Martial Arts Centre for over a year trying to secure funding from Fife Council to repair this badly damaged road.
“This news will come as a huge relief to the members who use the building and have to repeatedly risk damaging their vehicles to do so. The prospect of the road worsening further and potentially becoming unusable over winter was bleak, so I am delighted that we have finally secured an agreement to commit the money needed to put it right.”
