New plans unveiled for Fife hotel which has sat empty for a decade
A former hotel and pub, which has sat empty for a decade, could be set for a new lease of life.
Plans have been unveiled to turn the Cedar Inn, Aberdour, into a five bedroom family home, and two holiday lets.
Owen and Rachael Dyer, from Dundee, have submitted a planning application to Fife Council to change the use of the building which sits on the corner of Shore Road and Livingston Lane, close to the High Street in the town’s conservation area.
The building is said to be in a dilapidated state after lying empty for almost ten years despite several attempts to find new owners and operate again as a hotel.

The Cedar Inn, which had nine bedrooms, opened and closed three times between 2015 and 2018 before being sold to Star Pubs - part of Heineken UK - and, despite plans for a refurbishment, it has never re-opened.
In 2024, a planning application outlined another revamp with the aim of attracting a new tenant. There was extensive publicity and marketing of the proposed improvements and business opportunity, but the doors remained closed.
Now, the Dyers want to turn the building into five-bedroom house, along with two self-contained units, to be used for short-term lets after buying it earlier this year.
A supporting statement said: “The property has been closed and vacant for approximately 10 years and is now in a dilapidated state. The white painted walls are weathered and the timber windows are in poor condition. The appearance of the building is now detrimental to the quality of the historic streetscape along Shore Road, within Aberdour Conservation Area.

The change of use to a house will use the north part of the building, over the ground and first floor. The ancillary units will be formed in the ground and first floors of the south part of the building, with a shared entrance from the rear.
The area at the back will be reconfigured to provide a garden and parking spaces for both.
Councillors will consider the application in due course.
