Raith Rovers: What sensational milestone is Lewis Vaughan eyeing up this Saturday?

After battling back to fitness in recent weeks following four months out with hamstring tendonitis, Raith Rovers striker Lewis Vaughan is eyeing a sensational milestone in this Saturday’s William Hill Championship match at Greenock Morton.

For long serving Vaughan, 30, a Rover since way back in 2011, is just one goal shy from netting 100 for the Kirkcaldy club – including friendlies - having scored in the 2-1 league defeat at Ayr United on their last outing on January 31.

He told the Fife Free Press: “With that figure of 99 goals including what I’ve done in friendlies, I don’t know if scoring this Saturday will count officially as being 100!

"I’m not sure how I’ll celebrate if I score. I think doing a somersalt is beyond me now!

“My start to the season was obviously frustrating. I feel like I started the season quite well.

"In the cup games, the first few league games, I was doing okay. So it was a bit of a frustration on my part to then be out injured.

"Football doesn't always go your way, so there's nothing else for it apart from to work hard.

"Behind the scenes, work hard in the gym and try and get back on the pitch and I've been able to do that.

"I'm fit now, back on the team and coming on and scoring. I'm delighted to be back this season as I'd planned.”

Raith go into the Morton match in sixth place with 28 points from 24 matches, four points behind fourth-placed Ayr United – who have played a game fewer – and the final promotion play-off spot.

When asked if he feels in his gut that Raith can still make the play-offs this term, Vaughan replied: “Of course. I think with the squad that we've got, we shouldn’t be where we are in the league.

"But it’s easy saying that in an interview. We need to go and prove it on a Saturday.

"I fully believe in the squad and so does the manager (Dougie Imrie). So, there's no reason why we can't.

"With the players that we've got there, I fully believe that we can still go and do it. There's still a lot to play for.

"In my opinion,we can easily still reach the top four.

"We've got a cup semi-final still to play too (an away KDM Evolution Trophy semi-final at Airdrieonians on Tuesday, February 24), so there's still a lot to play for this season and I'm certainly looking forward to it.”
