The move for the 18-year-old Rangers player has not yet been confirmed at Stark’s Park but it is believed that the move east is a mere formality after the winger ended his loan spell at Inverness Caledonian Thistle this week.

Kennedy had impressed during his spell in the Highlands where he played 10 times for John Robertson’s side – twice against Raith – and scored one goal, however he found pandemic restrictions difficult to deal with and was also suffering from homesickness, so he has cut his season-long loan deal short and returned to his home town side.

He is considered one of Scotland’s most exciting young talents and the Glasgow side have shown they believe he has a gig future in the game as he is expected to sign a new deal before his move to Kirkcaldy this week.

He initially signed a three-year senior deal with the club in 2018 having come through the youth system at Ibrox, though he is yet to make his first team debut.

His arrival at Stark’s Park will be a huge boost for Raith and increase John McGlynn’s attacking options as competition among the first team squad.

Raith have started with two wingers in almost every game this season in Ethan Ross – on loan from Aberdeen – and Dan Armstrong, so Rovers fans can expect to see plenty of Kennedy from now until the end of the season.

He has featured at every level of the Scotland youth set up and was called up to the U21 squad in November.
