Fife Flyers target win over last team they have yet to beat this season

Fife Flyers have one last chance to post a win over Nottingham Panthers this season.

And if they deliver on the road in Friday’s game, it would mean the team will have at least delivered a victory against each side in the Elite League across the 2025-26 campaign.

It’s one goal to aim for as a tough season draws to a close, with only ninth spot up for grabs if they can overhaul a three-point gap on Dundee Stars.

Flyers hit the road with a couple of injury concerns which will need late decisions before face-off.

Swedish forward Johan Porsberger planned to skate on Thursday wearing the non-contact red top in midweek training before resuming full preparation with a possible return to this weekend. He has not played since the mid-February road trip to Dundee, and is now listed as ‘day to day.’

Team captain Garet Hunt will also see how his recovery is going after taking a knock in Sunday;’s game which saw him watch the third period from the bench, while Mason Alderson is waiting on scans for a lower body injury.

Flyers emerged from the weekend with a confidence boosted road win at Guildford Flames on Saturday, but ran out of steam in a 7-1 loss at home to Sheffield Steelers 24 hours later.

Michael Courts, interim coach, welcomed the capture of two points.

“At this stage of the season, it is all about small victories,” he said. “With Dundee also winning it kept the status quo between the teams - overhauling them and finishing ninth is something we are aiming for.

"That gives the fans something to cheer and speaks about our identity and who we are - we don’t give up games until the last second, and we want to get as much as we can from what is left of the season.”

The team also has a rare 24-hour break before returning to home ice on Sunday to take on Manchester Storm - and if they reproduce the form that secured a win in Guildford, the fans could be in for a good game of hockey.

“We played really well,” said Courts. “We changed some specific things during the week in terms of systems and our shape, - we have an instinctive group of players and we played to our strengths.” A near 24-hour round trip saw them with little left ion the tank for Sunday’s loss to Sheffield, with a 7-1 scoreline more than harsh outcome/.

“Guildford did not lie down and kept coming at us. We had to empty the tanks to get the win. That took some energy from us on Sunday. I don’t like using road trips as an excuse, but we left Kirkcaldy at 6:00am on Saturday and got back at 6:05am Sunday - I was tired and I wasn’t playing, so you can only imagine how the guys felt.”
