Quintet launch album with Langtoun Jazz
Langtoun Jazz is to host an appearance by a group on the day of its debut album release.
Saxophonist and composer Jack Pearce will release his debut album ‘Church Lane’ on October 9 and make a return to the Lang Toun on the same day with a gig at the St Bryce Centre.

Formed at Leeds Conservatoire, the Jack Pearce Quintet brings together Pearce (alto saxophone) with Sam Hughes (guitar), Joe Frost-Tesfaye (piano), Angus Haygarth (drums), and Dan Sanderson (bass).
Across seven original tracks, ‘Church Lane’ draws on the interplay and spontaneity developed by the group onstage, balancing tight ensemble writing with expansive improvisation and a strong melodic focus.
Recorded in the 12th-century church of St Mary’s in Kirkby Lonsdale, ‘Church Lane’ takes much of its character from the space itself. The album’s warm resonance, sweeping atmosphere and melodic sensibility reflect the architecture and acoustics of the church, with its vaulted ceilings and stained-glass surroundings leaving a clear imprint on the sound.
The result is a debut that captures both the immediacy of a live band and the sense of place that shaped the music.
Grace Black, Langtoun Jazz Chair, said: “We are delighted to welcome back Jack and his band after their memorable debut visit to Kirkcaldy last October.
“This is one of the hardest-working bands in the UK and it is a particular pleasure to welcome them on the day of their album release.”
Doors will open 7.30 for 8.00 on October 9, and audience members are welcome to bring their own refreshments.
Tickets costing £14 plus booking fee can be booked in advance via the links on the Langtoun Jazz website www.langtounjazz.co.uk.
