Hidden Histories in Leven

Together Levenmouth Hub will host Hidden Histories, a community art exhibition celebrating local memories and heritage this week.

Commissioned by the Leven Riverside Project and Archaeology Scotland, Hidden Histories was led by archaeologist Lizzie Robertson, who has worked on projects across Scotland and has a passion for Scottish heritage and community arts.

As part of the project, Lizzie delivered four creative sessions with three local East Fife groups: Methilhill Community Children’s Initiative, East Fife Sporting Memories, and residents of Methil Care Village.

During the sessions, children from MCCI created a sound map of the River Leven, while older participants produced postcards and audio recordings reflecting on their memories of the area during the 1950s.

These unique contributions will be showcased throughout the exhibition in the Pop-Up @ The Hub space.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to become part of the project. Blank postcards will be available for attendees to share their own memories and stories of the area, which will then be added to the exhibition.

Lizzie said: “I have been amazed by how many people were willing to share their stories and by the enthusiasm they brought to the project, regardless of their age.

“It has been wonderful to see local history and personal memories come together.”

The Hidden Histories Exhibition is free to attend and will be open from 9am to 4pm on Thursday and Friday (18 and 19).
