And it is encouraging people to donate toys to ensure that no child in the town goes without this festive period.

Customers can hand in presents at the Mitchelston store in Kirkcaldy – putting them in a special trolley, situated near the checkouts.

Pauline Buchan, strategic manager of the Cottage said: “We are already experiencing high numbers of referrals for support for children and their families. This year, the demand will be greater than ever, and to have the support of Asda Kirkcaldy is amazing.

“The store, and its community champion Jean Ritchie have been hugely supportive this year. This is just another example of them going the extra mile to help children on their doorstep who otherwise wouldn’t have anything to open on Christmas Day.

“We don’t want to see any child or young person go without at Christmas, but we need to keep the donations coming in.”

New toys, unwrapped, and suitable for children and young people aged up to 16 years can be donated at Asda Kirkcaldy until December 16.

Pauline added: “We want to thank everyone who has donated so far – we really appreciate it and have been overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness from the community yet again.

"There are a range of other ways to donate or help with our appeal.”

The more people get involved, the more the Cottage team can make sure that no child or family is hungry, cold or without any presents this Christmas.

It needs donations of new clothing, pyjamas, new toys, toiletries, non-perishable food items and baby milk.
