Work starts to tackle overgrown, inaccessible path link to Lochore Meadows

A path which links two communities with one of Fife’s most popular outdoor destinations is set to be restored.

The core path links Benarty Community Centre and Lochore Meadows Country Park.

It was once an important route between the community and the country park, but became overgrown and has been inaccessible for the last few years.

The restoration project will be funded as part of the construction of the new mountain bike trail at Lochore Meadows Country Park. With work on the trail now nearing completion and delivered under budget, the underspend will be reinvested to bring the much-requested path back into use.

Once restored, the route will provide a safe and accessible link for walkers, cyclists, wheelchair users and families with buggies, making it easier for local people to reach and enjoy the country park.

Councillor Alex Campbell, convener of Cowdenbeath area committee, said:"This is something the community has wanted to see for some time. Local people have highlighted how important this route is and how much they value having a direct connection to Lochore Meadows.

"It's particularly pleasing that savings from the mountain bike trail project can now be used to deliver another improvement that will benefit local residents. I'm pleased we're able to put it back into the community and restore a path that many people have been asking for.

"The restored route will make it easier for people of all ages and abilities to access the park, enjoy the outdoors and travel actively. I'm delighted that we're now in a position to bring this important community link back into use."
