Police appeal after report of girl, 10, assaulted near Fife park

Police are investigating reports of an alleged assault on a young girl in a Fife park at the weekend.

It follows a warning posted on social media to other parents in the Cowdenbeath area.

Police were alerted over a report on a man approaching a ten-year old girl on a path between Bervie’s Brae and Johnston Park.

It is alleged he took photos of her before returning a short time later and grabbing her by the hair.

A police spokesman said it had launched an investigation.

The incident happened around 9:10pm on Saturday.

The man was described as ‘an older man’ wearing a grey tracksuit.

A spokesman said: ““We understand the concern that this could cause local people and officers are currently carrying out enquiries to establish more information regarding this incident and trace the man involved.”

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area should call 101, quoting incident 4196 of Saturday, April 3.
